We have extensive expertise, spanning many legal and non-legal aspects of security and disaster management. This allows us to analyse and advise on synergies, gaps and solutions across a broad spectrum of issues, including from single and inter-disciplinary, as well as from national, regional and international, perspectives.
Our specialist expertise includes: counter-terrorism, organised crime, piracy, cyber, arms control, armed conflict, transitional justice, serious international crimes, human rights, privacy, rule of law, disaster risk mitigation/management, governance, global health, victims, trauma, gender, vulnerable groups, land management, CBRN, (non-) nuclear proliferation, environmental, disaster communications, emerging technology, artificial intelligence, maritime and fisheries.
We offer four primary services:
- Provision of technical legal advice: this may be single or inter-disciplinary in nature. For instance, we can review existing or draft documents, policies, instruments or legislation for their accuracy as well as compliance with relevant industry or legal standards, codes and requirements. Or we can undertake an audit of existing systems and approaches governing specific security or disaster issues in order to identify and address potential gaps, making recommendations to strength governance structures.
- Capacity development and educational activities: we can undertake bespoke capacity building and educational activities tailored to your specific requirements (which we can also assist in identifying). These can be framed towards particular audiences (e.g. professional, community or academic, legal or inter-disciplinary) to ensure their accessibility. We can assist with any related needs analysis, design, development of supporting materials, implementation, delivery, and subsequent evaluation of training activities.
- Research and analysis: our extensive subject matter expertise, across wide-ranging security, conflict, emergency and disaster related issues, enables us to undertake the research, analysis, writing and editing of legal and inter-disciplinary publications, policy reports, documentation, and so forth. The sought outcomes can be orientated towards specified project objectives and audiences, including national/international law and policy makers, public and private sector.
- Project and event management: we can assist with the conception, coordination, management, leadership and evaluation of projects, as well as related events such as specialist conferences, workshops, and seminars.
