Graeme is a principal associate with GSDM. A former senior military officer, his portfolio is a unique blend of intergovernmental, diplomatic, programme management, military and academic experience. He thrives in the modern complexity of the security paradigm. He specializes in programme design, delivery and evaluation that supports security, resilience and disaster risk analysis and response.
Whilst still serving with the British Army, Graeme ran Officers’ Education for the British Army in Germany and was responsible for writing programmes that were taught worldwide. He served operationally in East Timor, Sierra Leone (twice), Kosovo, Pakistan and Afghanistan and became recognised as an expert in civil-military relations. He has worked with many United Nations entities, the International Organization for Migration, International Committee of the Red Cross, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, foreign governments and many major non-governmental organisations. In addition to lecturing at the NATO School in Oberammergau, Graeme assisted NATO Headquarters and the United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence (MOD) in the re-writing of Civil-Military Co-operation (CIMIC) Doctrine.
At the United Kingdom’s Defence Academy he was responsible for a Strategic Defence Engagement Programme, sponsored by the MOD, Department for International Development (DFID) and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. This was delivered in over 60 countries and as well as in the United Kingdom.
Graeme’s primary areas of teaching and training expertise are the development of policy, strategy and plans for security, disaster risk reduction, resilience and professionalism. He also has experience of being responsible for the quality assurance of several masters’ degree programmes and solely responsibility for the United Kingdom’s MOD’s Strategic Management Programme.
Since leaving the Army, Graeme has undertaken a portfolio of activities including election monitoring? Work as a long-term observer in Kenya; educational programme design and delivery in Egypt, Zambia, Indonesia and many other countries; and the development of through life recruitment and training systems for American Oil Companies in Northern Iraq. He has acted as an educational consultant to an Indian oil industry fabrication company in Dubai and Northern Iraq.

walking and reading
